Use chilled items: Pack items that are already cold. Don't rely on the cooler to do all the work of chilling them from room temperature. Pack it tight: The less empty space there is inside your cooler, the longer it will stay cold. Fill any empty spaces with extra ice packs or towels. Keep it closed: Only open the zipper when you absolutely need to. Each time you open the cooler, cold air escapes and warm air gets in, which melts the ice faster.
